Who loves smoothie bowls? We do! They’re an easy option for those who want a nutritious breakfast and perfect for how little time they take to prepare which makes them great for those busy weekday mornings. Just a few minutes prep time the night before, a little blitz in the morning, a few more minutes to top with your favourites, and voilà : an awesome healthy breakfast for you and your family to enjoy!
As much as we love smoothie bowls, we have 2 peeves with them.
1. Blitzing frozen bananas and fruit is sometimes really hard! They don’t blend easily and all your left with is a lumpy mess.
2. Structural integrity. To address the above problem, you add liquid and as it blends but then it becomes too watery. Here you’re left with a fruity soup, which doesn’t hold any of the yummy toppings.
We have a way to deal with both problems, which gives you a smoothie bowl with amazing texture, and also packs it with even more nutrients: OATS and GROUND FLAX! Soaking some oats in a little milk the night before, and adding to the blender along with tablespoon of ground flaxseed the next morning helps the frozen fruit blend evenly and easily, delivering you with a soft serve ice cream like texture that holds up wonderfully to be topped with additional fruit, nuts and of course our granolah!
